Horsham teacher holds virtual duet with musician in New Zealand

A Horsham teacher has played virtual duets to reconnect with musicians around the world.

Jacob Keet, 32, plays violin in the Horsham Symphony Orchestra and teaches history at Christ’s Hospital School.

He said: “Since there’s no way of meeting up with people to play music it’s been a nice way to meet up with people I used to play with.”

Jacob added that he has played violin since he was about six and clarinet from age eight or nine.

One of Jacob’s videos, which features the piece Czardas by Monti, has been viewed hundreds of times on Facebook.

Jacob said he recorded Tony Ryan’s piano part first before editing in his sections on violin and clarinet.

Tony is based in New Zealand, according to Jacob.

He added: “It’s been really popular with friends. It’s been really great. I’m going to do another one with the lady I used to play with in Mombasa.

“It’s been a really nice way to play with people over a long distance.”

Jacob, who also produces history videos for his students, normally plays concerts locally.

He added: “It’s nice that people react so kindly to [the videos].”
