Horsham’s stay-at-home celebrations to mark VE Day

A range of online events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day tomorrow (Friday May 8) are being arranged for people in Horsham.

The day is set to be one of the biggest commemorations of the end of World War II in Europe.

And Horsham District Council, in partnership with QM Studios, Visit Horsham and many community partners, are having their own special Online VE Day.

At 8am there will be a podcast, introduced by singer-songwriter David Essex, featuring local people who witnessed first-hand the impact of World War II telling their moving stories. This will be available at www.qmstudios.co.uk

At 10am Horsham Celebrates VE Day 75: an hour-long celebration with music, singing, and memories, available at Horsham Time Well Spent.

Horsham District Council cbinet Member for the Local Economy Paul Clarke said: “This year marks a really important milestone in our country’s history – the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe. It’s right that we all take a moment to remember the efforts and sacrifices made on our behalf by soldiers and citizens at the time.

“Clearly this was not how we envisaged celebrating VE Day – we had hoped to put on a number of events across the District. However, it’s really important that people remain at home at the current time to protect each other and the NHS.

“But to help mark this historic event during the lockdown restrictions we have created some unique experiences for you online, to enjoy from the safety of your own homes.“
