Jack Adam Blunsdon had X-linked myotubular myopathy, a muscle condition which affects only boys.

He was born to Sompting parents Dave Blunsdon and Karen Vardy on January 11, 2006, and sadly died on his first birthday, January 11, 2007.

Dave said: “We have held this golf day annually since, to keep Jack’s name alive and to raise much-needed funds for the Myotubular Trust, a charity set up by two mums who sadly lost their sons to this horrific condition.

“This year’s event was the 14th time we have held it and it was originally planned to be held on August 1 but was postponed due to Covid restrictions and eventually held on October 3 at Ham Manor Golf Club in Angmering.

“This was obviously a socially-distanced event, with all players wearing masks in the clubhouse until seated and breakfast served at the tables, as were the drinks and food after.”

There were 47 golfers taking part this year and £10 of the entrance money was donated to the charity.

It was a tight game, with 11 teams of four and one of three. For the third year running, Team Jack, Dave’s team with Sean McKeown, Andy Boxall and Wayne Elms, came out on top.

The nearest the pin trophies were won by Greig Vardy, Henry King and Andy Haggis.

Further money was raised in an auction for fourball vouchers, kindly donated by East Brighton, Littlehampton, Slinfold, Lewes, Ham Manor, Bognor Regis and Horsham golf clubs.

Dave said: “The trophies this year were sponsored by two of the golfers playing, Steve Farrell and Alun Boiling, which was much appreciated.

“With the entrance money donations and the very generous bids for the fourball vouchers, we raised £1,690, which has been sent off already to the charity.”
