The family of a Hastings woman who was given months to live after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer have raised more than £4,000 to help her complete her bucket list.

Debby Sadler, 60, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on July 31. The cancer has spread to her liver and last Tuesday (August 18) she was told she had just three to six months left to live.

Her son David Mayfield said she has 'kept her chin up' throughout the past few horrible weeks and has written a bucket list of activities she would like to complete, including an indoor skydive, getting a matching tattoo with her daughter Lisa Manville and to meet Westlife.

Debby, who had been caring for a woman with dementia before her diagnosis, has been unable to work or meet the costs of her bucket list.

As a result, David and Lisa set up a fundraiser four days ago which has raised more than £4,200, thanks to 114 donations.

On the page, David, a London firefighter, said: "It's with a very heavy heart that I ask for your help at this extremely tough time in our lives.

"Our wonderful Mum, Debby, was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer which as you can imagine has broken the hearts of everybody who knows and loves her.

"We have been told that she has 3 to 6 months left with us so we want her to do all the things she wants to do during the upcoming weeks.

"In Mum's style, she has been laughing and joking and kept her chin up throughout these horrible few weeks, what a true inspiration she is and someone who my sister and I are incredibly proud to call our beautiful Mum."

Debby's bucket list also includes a night at the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne to celebrate her seventh wedding anniversary, having all her VHS tapes converted to DVD, a trip in a helicopter, and some rocking chairs and a table to make a memory corner in her garden.

David said he and his family have been 'completely overwhelmed' by the generosity shown by those who have donated, including tattoo parlours offering free tattoos and restaurants offering the family a free meal.

He added: "We are so thankful for everybody's kindness. We know everybody is going through tough times at the moment so that makes it even more special.

"We are grateful to everyone."

David is also organising a charity walk from West Sussex to East Sussex alongside firefighters from London and West Sussex, where he has been a retained firefighter for the past 13 years.
