Hundreds of volunteers join Eastbourne Big Summer Beach Clean - in pictures

Hundreds of volunteers came together at the weekend (July 11 - 12) to take part in the Eastbourne Big Summer Beach Clean.

The event was organised by Plastic Free Eastbourne (PFE) and saw volunteers divided into teams, adhering to social distancing guidelines, and cleaned up 93 sections of the beach separated by groynes. Oliver Sterno from PFE said, “Well done all of you! I want to say a big thank you from PFE. What a great weekend it was too with the weather. This was a unique event, made possible by the fact that our beach is divided into 93 separate beaches by groynes. Each volunteer group was able to be completely socially distanced by cleaning just their own allocated beach. This event has had a knock on effect of groups wanting to get involved with cleaning on the Downs, local parks and continued beach cleaning.”
