International BMX event to be held in Hastings

​BMX riders from all over the world will be descending on Hastings from Friday (September 6) to participate in the annual Battle of Hastings event.

The annual contest take place at the Source Park at White Rock, the world's biggest subterranean skate park.

The event is sponsored by big brands, such as Swatch and Vans.

The event this year runs from Friday until Sunday inclusive (September 8).

Tom Creasy, from the Source Park, said: “Again, with Swatch coming in as our title sponsor alongside Vans, Monster Energy and more this is set to be our biggest event to date.

“As tickets sold out straight away, our events on Hastings beach outside Source Park on the evening of Friday, September 6 are set to be bigger than ever.”

Friday’s event is free to watch that will feature the world’s top riders go head to head in a high air contest on a huge, nine foot high, custom-built quarter pipe, to see who can go the highest.

One of the most exciting elements of the weekend-long event sees riders attempting to perform the best trick in front of spectators.

This year sees the eighth annual event.

Olympic Medalists Kieran Reilly (GB) and Perris Benegas (USA) will be in attendance at this year’s event.

For the first time, the event will feature women’s BMX riders, Tom said.

People will be able to watch the events and follow the all the action live over the weekend on the Source YouTube channel, with timings and links on the website at www.sourcebmx.com.
