Jackie Hutchinson said: “We never realised, in our wildest dreams when we started knitting in December last year, that this project will become such a positive experience through Covid, and the lock down.

“Members of this group had to deal with bereavement, operations and illness. This project gave us focus, necessitated  regular contact via WhatsApp, and made difficult times bearable. Relationships have been strengthened through the support and laughter in our communications.”

Jackie said: “Our aim is to display these poppies coming from an upstairs window of our church and will cascading into the garden below. At this stage we are attaching the near 800 poppies to a net, that will hold the display in place.

“There is a group of about 14 ladies in our church that have been knitting these poppies. A few friends that are not connected to the church have contributed to the project.

“We started working together as a group three years ago, when we had a project to complete 4 huge banners. Once this had been achieved, the group that had gelled together well, felt the need for another project. The poppies suited us unexpectedly well through this period.”
