Staff came up with the idea of cycling the distance from the home in Brighton Road to The Cenotaph in London, and back, on a static exercise bike.

They started on Monday and are pedalling away every day for five days, taking it in turns to help build up a total of 180 miles each day.

Lauren Barnes said: “This is a very important event we are doing at Drumconner nursing home, raising money for the Royal British Legion. This is not only a charity that is very dear to the staff’s hearts but also very much to our clients.

“We have worked really hard on organising a charity event that all of us can join in with.

“Our clients are also taking part in this magnificent event by taking on challenges such as leg and arm exercises, set safely by our onsite physio. These exercises will also be added to our total mileage each and every day, as our clients share the same passion as we do to make a difference to everyone that needs the support from this fantastic charity which helps serving members of the Armed Forces, ex-service men and women, their carers and families.”

The challenge has raised £365 so far. Visit uk.gofundme.com/f/our-poppy-cycle to make a donation.
