Rene, who lives by Widwater Lagoon, set a target of £600 but as the donations came flooding in, she joked ‘you guys really want me bald don’t you?’.

Her hair was down to waist length when she completed her Brave the Shave at Beachcomber Barbers on Shoreham Beach on Saturday, October 10, and so far she has raised £1,355.

Mum Julie Mcglough said: “She was so incredibly brave as she has had long hair since she was three and is 19, 20 next month.

“She was inspired to do this because she has lost three of her grandparents through cancer and wanted to give something back. The Macmillan nurses were incredible with the end-of-life care.

“My daughter has also had some sad news about her friend, who has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer and is going through chemo, so will lose his hair.”

Rene said she did the shave in memory of her grandparents and she was thrilled to have smashed her target.

She said: “Shaving my head means nothing compared to how much this money will help and support others in the future.

“This is such an incredible charity and supporters of our community, especially our loved ones. They cared for mine in their time of need, so doing this means so, so much.”
