"Potential applicants can register their interest on the website and the Post Office will contact them to discuss the proposal.

"Existing retailers in the Langney centre are also being approached.”

Councillor Shuttleworth said the Post Office is set to visit the shopping centre to asses interest with existing retailers and to liaise with the centre’s management group.

He added: “I am encouraging the Post Office to find a temporary solution whilst working towards a permanent Post Office.

"I would like the Post Office to bring in a postmaster to cover the period up to finding a new permanent postmaster.

"The owners of the Langney Shopping Centre have confirmed that they are actively working to restore a Post Office.”

Langney Shopping Centre said it had nothing to add to what Councillor Shuttleworth said.

The Post Office has been contacted for more information.
