Lewes area teachers recognised with awards

Elizabeth Crowther, from Breakwater Academy in Newhaven, was awarded Lewes Area Primary School Teacher of the Year.

Judges said: “When trainees or colleagues need to observe excellent teaching practice, they go to Liz’s classroom. She knows her children very well and continually tries new strategies to help them fully engage with their learning, such as Dual Coding – using mental images to aid learning – along with personalised support and interventions.”

Tristan Roberts, of Priory School Lewes, was awarded STEM Teacher of the Year, with judges commenting: “Tristan is driven by the desire to help everyone learn to love Maths.

“He redesigned Year 7 Maths lessons to give all students equal chance of success by including opportunities for creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. Student engagement skyrocketed so impressively that this approach will be extended to other year groups.”
