THE LIB Dems have held onto Polegate North in a By Election for Wealden District Council.

The election was called following the death of former Mayor of Polegate, Roy Martin, a staunch supporter of the Liberal Democrats, at the end of May.

There was a turnout of 30.72 per cent and six spoilt papers yesterday, August 2.

Don Broadbent won with 494 votes.

Other results were as follows: Edward Board (Cons, 263); Bernard Goodwin (UKIP, 212); Alexius Mthobi (Labour, 76) and Joseph O’Riordan (Independent, 267).

Cllr Broadbent will represent Polegate North with longstanding Cllr Oi Lin Shing, an Independent Democrat.
