The idea was the brainchild of Natasha Lavender from Littlehampton, who runs a social group for single people called Singles and Social in Sussex.

The 40-year-old said the pressures of lockdown and seeing people battle with food and money problems had inspired her to do something to help.

People out there are really struggling,” she said.

She posted in the singles group and elsewhere on Facebook to call for donations.

The gifts will be delivered to the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, Chestnut House Hospice, two care homes and three families in need.

Natasha has been supported by two friends, Chrissie Blackman from Goring and George Short from Bognor Regis.

The trio have named themselves the Christmas Angels and are looking forward to spreading the festive cheer to children and families this December.

Natasha thanked everyone who had donated toys and gifts for them to deliver.

The singles group has been running for a year and a half and, before lockdown, saw members enjoy barbecues and picnics on the beach together.

Natasha said she set it up after becoming fed up of being stuck indoors by herself.

Members meet as a social group, she said, with up to 30 people coming along to some events.

“It’s a fun group,” she said. “I’ve met some beautiful people.”
