Look & Sea Centre’s upper floors could become a hotel

Upper floors of the Look and Sea Centre could become a hotel, according to plans submitted to Arun District Council.

The first and second floor of the riverside building in Surrey Street, Littlehampton, was home to a heritage centre before the building’s closure in 2018.

It has since been used as function rooms – but could now be turned into six one and two-bedroom hotel rooms. They would comprise of bedroom and bathroom facilities, with no living areas or kitchens. According to the plans, the hotel would have a remote reception and meals could be taken in Harbour Lights Café, which takes up the ground floor and would be unaffected by the plans.

There would also be no external building works.

Littlehampton Town Council objected to the plans on the basis that community facilities should be protected and that the space should be used as a visitor information point to boost tourism.

There were also concerns from residents that the viewing tower above should be kept open for the public.

But Rodway Planning, which submitted the application on behalf of its client, said: “The proposed small-scale hotel facility will not result in the loss of a visitor offer, but conversely would result in additional accomodation to serve tourists to the local area.”
