‘Loving and affectionate’ deaf cat Athena ‘desperate’ for a new home

A white, long-haired cat named Athena has been living at an East Sussex adoption centre but is now ‘desperate’ for a new home, say her carers.

Staff at Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre, Chelwood Gate are looking for a patient and loving owner for the deaf cat.

Now 10-years-old, Athena has been at the Lewes Road centre since December despite ‘coping very well’ with her disability and living life to the full, according to the centre’s deputy manager, Tania Marsh.

“Like blind cats, deaf cats can cope very well and Athena certainly doesn’t let her disability get in the way of enjoying life,” Tania said.

Athena likes to explore but, due to her deafness, needs to stay close to home.

“She will need to stay close to home, as she would not be able to hear dangers like passing cars,” Tania said, “but she definitely needs access to the outdoors and a secure garden would be ideal to allow her to enjoy the fresh air in safety.”

A new owner would have to be mindful that Athena’s white coat needs some maintenance to help keep it ‘tangle free’.

“Athena’s new owner will need to keep on top of her grooming regime. She has lovely, long fur but will need a little help keeping it tangle free,” said Tania.

However, Athena’s care pays off as she is a ‘loving and affectionate cat’ and ‘loves a cuddle’.

“She’s a real people cat, and will form a close bond with her new owner.” the centre’s deputy manager said.
