She said: “May is a time when I should be raising funds for my charities with the Tickled Pink Mayors Ball, and most of all saying thank you to those groups and organisations that have opened their doors to me over the past year, while nominating people and organisations for recognition. As we all know this year is different.

“As Mayor I have always said what a wonderful place we live, during this pandemic our town and surrounding villages are full to the brim of people doing everything they can to help and support their communities.

“My sincere thanks go to the NHS, our amazing care workers, supermarket staff, farmers, pharmacies, shops, refuse collectors, emergency services, teachers, bus, trains and taxis, utilities, and every other single person working to help keep us going, including our local Councillors who have been either shopping for residents, co-ordinating help and support, admins on local BEAT sites, and even collection food in the yellow community bus for the Bexhill food bank

“I’m out every Thursday at 8pm with my pan and spoon and feel the positive vibe and true old fashioned community spirit.

Well done to everyone following the guidance we have been given for social distancing to stay safe.

“We have all had to do things that have been hard, one of mine was not being at the birth of my great niece Isla, For others it has been staying away from family, not being able to keep in physical contact with loved ones or even socialising with friends, not forgetting the kids missing their pals. In time we will look back to this period and be thankful for our community spirit as this is what is making life easier.”
