Meet the new Mayor of Hastings

Hastings born Cllr James Bacon became the new Mayor of Hastings following a socially distanced ceremony outside the Town Hall on Wednesday evening.

Cllr Bacon had previously served as deputy Mayor to Cllr Nigel Sinden. Cllr Ruby Cox has been appointed as the new Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Bacon said: ”It is such an honour to have been elected as your Hastings Mayor . I will do my very best to support all that Hastings is about.

Cllr Bacon, who is the Great Grandson of Hastings character Biddy The Tubman, is known for his hands-on community involvement.

He had organised and led litter picking groups in Hastings Old Town and was involved in re-painting the bollards in George Street.

During the pandemic, along with Cllr Sinden, he collected donations from people’s door steps and delivered them to Hastings Foodbank.

He is a great supporter of carnival and other Hastings festivals.
