Two volunteers from a Midhurst medical transport provider have been recognised with a ‘Community Hero Award’.

The awards were given by MP Gillian Keegan to recognise the ‘incredible selfless actions of people within our community over the past year’.

Rangesh Nallan, treasurer of Tandem, and Rebecca Piper, Tandem’s secretary, joined the charity just over four years ago.

Rangesh and Rebecca carried on with their own responsibilities and also picked up these roles as well as other committee members’ roles.

While doing all of that, they also worked tirelessly to recruit a new committee and other volunteers.

Chairman Richard Watts said: “I can’t think of two people who deserve this award and recognition more. Without them Tandem would not be where it is today.”

The fact that Tandem has been able to continue helping people get to their medical appointments during this period of crisis is largely down to their efforts.

Rebecca said: “It’s extremely nice to be recognised for the work I have done. I love working with Tandem, I love giving back to the community.”

Rangesh said: “It’s good to be recognised like this. It was a surprise but we feel that we really did our bit.”

Tandem supports the communities of Midhurst and Petworth by taking residents, who otherwise could not get to the surgeries and hospitals, to their medical appointments.

It does this using a number of dedicated volunteer drivers who collect from and return residents to their homes.
