The performance by Steve Greer, also known as Orlando Elvis, took place at the Southdowns Memorial Hall earlier this month.

A spokesman for the Midhurst and Petworth Rotary Club, which organised the event, said it was ‘a very successful and fun evening’.

“The Memorial Hall was packed with a lively and enthusiastic audience and Steve gave a great performance, proving to be an excellent entertainer,” the spokesman said.

“The first half got us all singing and clapping to the songs of the 60’s-80’s with plenty of audience participation and then after the interval Steve returned as ‘Las Vegas Elvis’ and showed us his true singing talent.”

The evening raised more than £2,000 towards refurbishing the Midhurst and Easebourne Scout and Guide Hut and other Rotary charities.

The spokesman said the group would have to keep an ‘ear to the ground’, adding: “If Orlando Elvis leaves the bright lights to visit Midhurst again perhaps another concert could be on the cards?”

Steve patrolled the streets of Midhurst during the 90s and 00s as the town’s dedicated parking enforcement officer and often serenaded unsuspecting passers-by.

He appeared on Meridian TV for a feature, and told the Observer back in 2004: “They followed me around the streets and asked locals what they thought of my singing.

“I am a happy sort of chappy but the archetypal image of a traffic warden is of a miserable person so I walk around being chirpy and singing and it throws people out.”

From 2000, he began to impersonate his idol seriously at weddings, parties, concerts and on television and radio.

Finally in 2007, he moved to the USA, where he is known as Orlando Elvis.

Steve has performed at numerous venues, including Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, and even officiates at wedding ceremonies in his Elvis persona.
