Danielle Evans from Rottingdean, has become part of the fundraising committee of Brighton’s Ronald McDonald House, which provides free accommodation to those with children or babies in hospital.

In Brighton, the charity serves the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hopsital with an eight-bedroom property opposite, on Abbey Road, and the Trevor Mann Baby Unit of the Royal Sussex County Hospital, on Eastern Road, with ten rooms on its top floor.

“The work this charity does is incredible. They provide a safe haven of support for families when they need it the most.”

Danielle, who is a social media marketing executive and was crowned Miss Brighton in February, hopes to help raise funds and awareness of the charity, after spending three months in hospital herself as a baby.

She said: “I was born prematurely, at just 26 weeks. My parents were told I had five percent chance of survival, and I ended up spending the first three months of my life at St George’s Hospital in London.

“My parents lived in Crawley – over 25 miles away – and had nowhere to stay locally, so they had to travel back and forth. It was manic for them and I now understand their worry and trauma.”

The fundraising committee supports Ronald McDonald House Brighton through planning fundraising events and developing links with schools, businesses and groups in the community.

Head of the charity’s community fundraising Vanessa Simmons said: “We are thrilled that Danielle has joined our Brighton fundraising committee.

“Having grown up hearing about how her parents coped while she was in hospital, she can truly empathise with the families we look after in our Brighton house who are going through such difficult times trying to support their child in hospital.
