VE Day celebrations in Sackville Road, Worthing, included Katrina and Lesley James posing as Land Girls and the fun of a ‘royal visit’, featuring Frank James as the Duke of Edinburgh, Lesley James as the Queen and Katrina James as Kate Middleton. Residents of Lansdowne Close, Worthing, had a celebration with own drinks and food. Dawn Stepney said: “It was nice for neighbours of all ages to come together, even if at two metres apart.” David and Nina King from West Worthing, said it was a joy to celebrate and they were ‘humbled to think of those sacrifices’

James and Bethany Watts organised a street party for Chatsmore Crescent, Goring, ‘to bring the neighbours together during this uncertain time’. James said: “Residents decorated their balconies, porches and front gardens in Union Jack bunting, flags and red white and blue, ready for the big day. A lot of residents also dressed up in Union Jack colours, too. The entertainment consisted of music from the past, three games of street bingo with prizes up for grabs, Churchill’s speech at 3pm, and a street sing-a-long, which residents could join in with musical instruments. The day was concluded with a communal game of ‘play your cards right’. The event was very well received. It was nice to bring people together and make them feel part of one big family.”
