Morrisons give cash boost to St Michael’s Hospice

St Michael’s Hospice has been given a real boost following a grant of £5,750 from the Morrisons Foundation.

The hospice has been affected by the pandemic, which has seen a number of fund raising events cancelled during the year.

The much-needed funds will enable the hospice to purchase a new specialist bed for the In-Patient Unit that will offer highly upgraded comfort, support and treatment to their patients.

Darran Penfold, trust fundraiser at the hospice said: “The support will help us greatly as we strive to provide the best possible free of charge palliative care services to patients and their families throughout Hastings and Rother. In particular, our highest populated area within our catchment is Hastings and St Leonards.”

“The bed funded by the Morrisons Foundation offers maximum comfort and support to our patients whilst also providing mobility assistance, therefore ensuring we are able to help our patients to remain as independent as possible during their time with us.”

The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives.

It makes grant awards of up to £25,000 to registered charities in communities throughout the UK through it’s Grant Funding programme and provides match funding for Morrisons colleagues who fundraise for their chosen charities.

Since launching over £30 million has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

St Michael’s Hospice provides high quality, responsive palliative care and bereavement support across Hastings and Rother, and working collaboratively with others to improve end of life care for all.

Its specialist care and clinical teams deliver supportive care, symptom control and support to patients and families through an in-patient unit, Wellbeing Programme, Hospice at Home service, Night Sitting, Bereavement Support and Hospice Neighbours.

St Michael’s Hospice needs to raise over £12,000 every day in order to cover its running costs and provide its vital services.
