Mysterious silver monolith pops up on Eastbourne roundabout

The pillars, called monoliths, have been popping up all over the world in the last few weeks including an American desert and a field in Belgium.

Now Eastbourne has one too on the roundabout at the end of Seaside.

The first was seen in America’s Utah desert when a helicopter spotted it in a remote section of land. It was found November 18 then disappeared on November 27.

A bit closer to home, one appeared on a beach on the Isle of Wight.

Although an anonymous collective called The Most Famous Artist took credit for the monoliths in America, the group said it had nothing to do with the ones appearing in the UK.

A designer from West Sussex has since claimed responsibility for the Isle of Wight one.

Various ideas around the reason for the monolith in Eastbourne have come up on social media. One person suggested it was part of a worldwide publicity stunt for a new TV show coming out, another said it was a copy-cat artist, and a few brought up the topic of aliens.

Despite this, no-one has yet come forward to claim responsibility for the monolith in Eastbourne.
