The land is earmarked for the development of 2,750 houses, a new school - Bohunt Horsham - along with sports facilities and parks.

Landowners Legal & General announced today that they are prioritising building the new bridge before the new school opens in December 2021.

The bridge will form part of major works at the roundabout junction of the A264 and Rusper Road to provide additional lanes which started this week and are expected to last for 15 months.

A spokesman for Legal & General said: “Our contractor is setting up on site to prepare for the main access works which will create the entrance to the new

development.

“These works will include upgrading the A264/Rusper Roa roundabout to increase capacity and reduce delays, and widening and improvements to Rusper Road.

“We will also be getting the site ready for the next phase of works, which is expected to start in January 2021.”

He said those works would involve putting in new roads to other parts of ‘Phase 1’ of the development so it can be developed over the next few years.

He added: “There is also potential for a new local centre in this phase, alongside around 800 new homes.”

Construction has already begun on the new Bohunt Horsham School, led by the Wates Group in partnership with the Department for Education, West Sussex County Council and Bohunt Education Trust.

The spokesman said “To ensure students can access the school safely by bike and on foot, Legal & General will be building a pedestrian and cycle bridge over the A264.

“We are working towards opening this by the end of 2021 ahead of the new school opening.”

He added: “We will also be building new access roads and infrastructure to help get the school ready for opening, making sure services like gas, electricity and water are all delivered on time.”
