New Year’s Eve warning from East Sussex Fire & Rescue

Anyone planning to see in 2021 with fireworks is being reminded to follow Covid rules and safety advice from East Sussex Fire & Rescue (ESFRS).

It is also asking people not to use sky lanterns as they can cause fires.

ESFRS says people should plan ahead by sourcing licensed fireworks that are stored safely.

People should also plan a safe location to let off the fireworks at an appropriate time. On New Year’s Eve fireworks can be let off until 1am.

On the night, the service has told people to be responsible with fireworks both in how they are handled and let off.

ESFRS says sparklers are unsuitable for children under five, and gloves should be worn when using them.

After the displays fireworks and sparklers should be doused in water overnight, then collected in a bag and put in a rubbish bin, according to the fire service.
