The annual race usually sees families get out and about in the countryside and raises much-needed funds for the village school.

Ruth Blanco, one of the organisers, said: “It’s become a very popular local event but with the lockdown in place, we didn’t want to cancel it completely and we have had to do things differently, so this year we’ve organised the Northchapel lockdown 5k.”

Residents are being asked to complete their own 5k by running or walking somewhere safe, while sticking to the Government guidelines and staying close to home.

Ms Blanco said: “If you live in Northchapel you could run the 5k route on your own, or you could run laps around your garden or even your front room!”

More than 68 people have applied to take part in the event so far.

Participants do not have to complete the run in one go, but can keep track of how far they go everyday and build it up.

They will need to complete the 5k before June 21, the day after the event had been scheduled to take place.

Ms Blanco said: “Once you’ve completed the 5k, make sure you take an awesome finishing line photo – be creative – and post it on our Northchapel 5k facebook page, and we’ll post you out a medal.

“We’re looking forward to running the Northchapel 5k again in the Autumn all together, but for now we hope you enjoy the challenge of the first ever Northchapel lockdown 5k!”

People have already started posting their photos to the group Facebook page with the hashtag #northchapellockdown5k
