Petworth councillor to take part in Big Sleep Out charity event

Harsha Desai, Chichester District Councillor for Petworth is set to be taking part in the 2024 Big Sleep out.

The annual Big Sleep Out takes place at Chichester Cathedral on Saturday 21st September and is Stone Pillow’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

Stone Pillow is a registered charity in Chichester that helps prevent homelessness. Their code services include hostels, supported accommodation, recovery service and an outreach team. Harsha Desai, Chichester District Councillor for Petworth will be taking part in the event. In a post on Facebook, Harsha wrote: “I along with some of my fellow councillors will be taking part in this event. If you would like to sponsor us please do.”

Speaking to Sussex World, Harsha said: “From becoming a councillor and trying to deal with these issues people face it does open your eyes to homelessness more. “Whilst we live in an affluent area, but tat doesn’t mean there’s not an issue with homelessness. We want to recognise that and do our bit.“My daughter, husband and mum are also taking part in the sleep out. We’re doing it as a family to get a small insight into the struggles faced by rough sleeping."

The event has a number of activities for those who attend, which includes a live guitar performance, shelter building and a dance school.
