PICTURES: Hastings Half Marathon raises £112,954

This year’s Hastings Half Marathon has already raised more than £100,000 for good causes it was revealed during a packed awards ceremony on Sunday (May 17).

To date, the event has raised a staggering total of £112,954.

International athlete Grace Baker presented the many prizes and awards and carried out a short interview giving her plans for the future during the ceremony at AZUR Marina.

The Great Britain international runner from Pett is hoping a business will come forward to support her future career.

Among the awards was a new prize – The Brenda Boyle Shield of Courage, in memory of local personality Brenda,which was sponsored by Spire Sussex Hospital, and presented by Brenda’s daughter Nikki, to 11-year-old Brendon Evans.

The Dyer Charity Shield for the group who raised the most monies by the evening,was won by Team Sparkle,raising £6,100.

Winners in the sponsor form draw were: Mattt and Darren Owen; Tyrone Collins; Carole Warren(Sparkle); Team Rolph; Brendon Evans and Peter Knight.

Entries for next year’s Half Marathon, on Sunday, March 20,are now open at www.hastings-half.co.uk ,where runners can also register on the waiting list for the BHLR10K later this year.

Hastings Lions Club members, who organised the event, thanked everyone who helped to make it a success.
