Pirates tovisit Castle

ARUNDEL Castle will become the lair for the pirates of the South Coast on Thursday June 2.

Portrayed by Living History Group Raven Tor, these buccaneers will demonstrate life as it was for those sailing outside the law two hundred years ago.

The pirates will be encamped on the American Ground with the ancient part of the Castle as the backdrop.

Duelling with pistols over buried treasure and fighting with swords over insults real or imagined, the encampment will be a lively place to visit.

Visitors will be able to hone their own skills with have-a-go fencing and archery and try their hand at some of the crafts being demonstrated.

A storyteller will also be present, spinning tall tales of bravery and skulduggery.

Founded in the mid eleventh century, Arundel Castle has been the home of the family of the Dukes of Norfolk for 850 years.

With sweeping views over the Arun valley, the ancient castle, stately home and magnificent gardens have been open to visitors for 200 years.
