Playgrounds across Eastbourne are open but popular Princes Park splash pad ‘presents too many risks’

Playgrounds around the town are open tomorrow (July 4) after more than 100 days of closure due to the coronavirus lockdown.

However, there are some play facilities that are not yet safe to open including the ever-popular Princes Park splash pad. Eastbourne Borough Council has told residents the facility will stay closed because opening it would be too risky and make social distancing difficult.

The splash pad usually opens throughout the summer months and is a free and popular attraction for young families.

A spokesperson from Eastbourne Borough Council said: “While playgrounds are due to open this Saturday, sadly Splash Pad in Princes Park will remain closed.

“This is because of the greater difficulty with maintaining social distancing and the increased risk of transmitting Covid-19 through splashed water.

Our number one priority is keeping our residents safe and splash pad presents too many risks to open up just yet.”
