Tests are being carried out on water in a Horsham pond following reports of pollution.

The pond – in Horsham Park – was reported to have ‘green contamination.’ But Horsham District Council, which owns the park, says the problem is now lessening and that tests are being carried out to find the cause of the problem.

A spokesperson said: "The green colouring on the pond water has now cleared. We will be working with colleagues from our Environmental Health team to take water samples for testing to ascertain what the colouring could have been.”

The council carried out a two-year programme of improvement works to the pond between 2021 and 2023.

As well as being a visitor attraction, the pond is an attenuation pond which means it gathers excess surface water, alleviating pressure and capturing pollutants that might otherwise enter the River Arun.
