Popular Eastbourne restaurant announces it is closing

A popular Eastbourne restaurant has announced it will not be reopening after lockdown.

Owners of Flamenco Tapas in Cornfield Terrace said it was with ‘deep regret and sadness’ they would be closing after 16 years.

They wrote in a statement on social media, “It is with deep regret and personal sadness that I must announce that, after 16 years of being in my life, Flamenco Tapas will not be reopening.

“Many factors have contributed to this decision, many far out of my control.

“I would like to sincerely thank all our customers and friends who has supported us over the years.

“It has truly been an honour to be part of Flamenco, but, for now, on to the next chapter.”

There was an outpouring of shock and sadness after the announcement.

The Sheldon B&B replied to the news on Twitter, “Oh no. I am truly sad, not just for us who know it to be the best in town, but for our guests too.

“They supported us by giving 10 per cent for our guests, and we supported them by recommending them. It is a great loss for the town.”

While many reacted to the news on the Herald Facebook page.

Heidi Emery said, “Gutted for the great team, great service and fabulous food and amazing memories.”

Kate Reed said she had fond memories of going to Flamenco with her late parents.

And Ali Revnell wrote, “Oh no! Only found this wonderful restaurant last year and were really looking forward to going back.”

Kelbo Baggins said, “Such a lovely place with amazing staff that actually care and amazing food. This will be huge loss to Eastbourne as it was always full and often needed to book ahead.”
