The borough council says it is planning to merge teams within Customer First to ‘become more efficient and put greater emphasis on bringing extra income through council tax, rent, and business rates’.

It has launched a consultation with staff to look into developing what it calls new ways of working.

A spokesperson for Eastbourne Borough Council said, “The proposal is to merge teams to become more efficient and put greater emphasis on bringing in extra income through collection of council tax, rent and business rates.

“This may result in limited redundancies. We will endeavour to minimise any impact and anyone whose position is at risk will be fully supported, including being considered for redeployment within the organisation.”

The spokesperson said, “Eastbourne Borough Council is delivering high-quality public services at a time when the government has stopped all our grant funding.

“Despite this, our priority is maintaining the services our residents rely on and that won’t ever change.”

It is not known at this time how many people could potentially lose their jobs.
