The Bexhill branch has been working hard to ensure that the 2020 poppy appeal is going ahead and that the public can take part in an remembrance activity.

Sue Dale said: “However, as many of our volunteers, or someone they live with, now fall into vulnerable categories it is not safe for them to take part this year.

“Unfortunately, as a result of this, we shall not be able to deliver boxes of poppies to every local business that has supported the poppy appeal in the past.”

Poppies and the popular metal poppy pins dated 2020 will be available at Ravenside Tesco from October 31, 2020. She added: “The veterans will be at a table which allows safe social distancing.

“Also due to social distancing we are unable to ask volunteers to carry out street selling.”

The pins are also available now from The Town Square Social Club, formerly the British Legion Comrade Club in London Road in Bexhill-on-Sea.

Poppy boxes will be in other shops and sites where possible.

The Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Bexhill have also had to be changed because of the pandemic.

Sue said: “Therefore it is with great sadness we have had to cancel the Remembrance

Parade in order to ensure the safety of all those who have made it such a success in the past.

“On Sunday, November 8 2020 at 10.50am a short Remembrance Service will take place at the War Memorial on Bexhill seafront and an informal wreath laying will follow.

“Anyone attending the service or laying a wreath is asked to maintain social distance and if this is not possible we ask you to wear a mask or face covering.”
