Horsham District Council has rejected proposals for two extra pitches on a site in Codmore Hill. And the move is being welcomed by local action group - Codmore Against Rural Decline CARD) - who have been campaigning against the extension.

CARD chairman Phil Hale said: “We’re very relieved. This application has been hanging over local residents for more than a year and we welcome the committee’s recognition of our valid concerns and objections.

Residents faced a doubling in the intensity of this site, potentially seeing up to eight households crammed into a small area.

“We’re grateful that the committee recognised this risk and the damage it could bring, in dominating our local community.”

CARD had also argued that the appearance of the proposed site would harm the character of the area and the committee was also concerned to note that no proposals for the look and feel, or style of mobile homes had been put forward by the applicants.
