Rother has highest Covid-19 death toll in Sussex

More people have died with Covid-19 in Rother than any other area of Sussex since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest figures.

Rother recorded a further six Covid-19 deaths in the latest daily figures, released at 5pm on Tuesday (January 26) which brings the total number of deaths across the district to 273.

Hastings yesterday saw its total reach 200 after six more deaths were added in the daily figures.

The news came on the same day the UK saw Covid-19 deaths pass the 100,000 mark. The UK has now recorded 100,162 deaths, the first European country to pass the landmark.

These figures include deaths in all settings, including care homes and hospitals.

East Sussex has recorded a total of 1,101 deaths in all settings within 28 days of a positive test.

Here’s how many deaths have been recorded in each area in East Sussex:

– Rother: 273

– Wealden: 255

– Eastbourne: 207

– Hastings: 200

– Lewes: 166

In West Sussex, a total of 1,036 Covid-19 deaths have been recorded, with Mid Sussex (208) seeing the most.

Over the weekend, the number of deaths in hospitals operated by the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – Conquest Hospital, Eastbourne District General, and Bexhill Hospital – passed 500 and reached 502 by Sunday.
