Selsey's '˜Mr Smiley' is set to stay

This happy hedge in Crablands Close, Selsey, has become something of an iconic jolly sight for holidaymakers travelling through the town.

Resident Kim Palmer, pictured with her 12-year-old daughter Sophia, said ‘Mr Smiley’ was given the jovial look a few years before she moved into the house and is still being used to give directions.

In summer, Kim said she has to cut it once a week to keep the features clear, but the effort is worth it.

She said: “People beep their horns, take a photo, all sorts.”
