The competition, with a theme of Hastings Bonfire, has been launched by Hastings Deputy Mayor Cllr James Bacon this week and is open to all shops in Hastings and St Leonards.

Cllr Bacon said: “All you need to do is create a window display based upon your ‘Love For Bonfire Night’, using your creativity and products and this will be judged during Hastings Week - October 10 - 18.”

He added: “There will be amazing prizes, including, a stay in a luxury B&B, a variety of dinner vouchers between £35 - £90, beauty treatment vouchers and further runners up prizes up to £35 each. These have all been donated from traders in Hastings Old Town.”

Prizes are from the Old Rectory B&B, with a stay and beauty treatment, while Mineli’s Pizza is offering two free pizzas. The Crown offering a £35 food voucher and the Albion offering two pie mains, two Sunday roast mains and two click and collect mains worth £72.

Rock N Ore Kitchen is offering a £50 dinner voucher.

Sadly this year the larger events which usually take place during Hastings Week, such as the bonfire procession, Town Crier’s Championship, Classic Car Show and Sprat and Winkle Commercial Vehicle Run have had to be cancelled, following a decision by Hastings Borough Council that no large public events can take place on its land because of the risk of spreading Covid-19.

The Seafood and Wine Festival was also cancelled.
