Having been in the spotlight in January last year with her appearance on BBC One’s The Greatest Dancer, Dinkie is now hoping to raise at least £1,000 for NHS Charities Together with her keep fit challenge.

From now until her 100th birthday, Dinkie will be working out six days a week, with a 45-minute keep fit class on three days and a 20-minute walk on the other three days.

Lesley said: “Just weeks away from celebrating her 100th birthday on May 7, 2021, Dinkie Flowers, stage name Dinkie Stapleton, wants to give something back to the NHS for the great work they have done during the current pandemic.

“From the age of three, Dinkie has been dancing. Becoming an international ice skater, she appeared in such shows as Puss in Boots on Ice in 1952, in 1954 she toured with the Tom Arnold Ice Revue and danced for the royal family in the Celebrity Ice Gala at the Queens Ice Club in 1952, which brought a letter of thanks from the Duke of Edinburgh.

“Setting up the Dinkie Flowers Stage School for Children, she has taught dance for over 50 years. Staging charity shows at the Shoreham Community Centre and local rest homes, she has injected sunshine into many people’s lives.

“At just 98 years young, Dinkie made her TV debut tap dancing her way through the auditions to appear on The Greatest Dancer, a British dance competition television series which won her the hearts of the British public.

“Never gracefully accepting her advancing years, even well into her nineties, until the current lockdown curtailed it, Dinkie has been teaching dance and keep fit classes.”
