Chair of governors Sarah Elphick said Chris Jowett would take up the role of permanent headteacher after the resignation of Miss Phibbs, who was on maternity leave.

Sarah said: “There has been a rigorous interview process including representatives from the Governing Board, the Diocese and a County Advisor, where Chris emerged as the successful candidate.

“During the interview, Chris expressed a clear and aspirational plan for moving the school forward and demonstrated a genuine desire to see this village school thrive and grow.

“He has ambitious plans to develop the school in a collaborative way, bringing out the best in both the staff and children and to include the wider community.”

She added that Chris’ appointment has been well received by parents. One said: “We are excited to have Mr Jowett join us permanently, he has done an exceptional job in taking the school forwards and through the complications of Covid, ensuring children and parents have been supported throughout, including sourcing additional laptops.”

Another added: “The appointment of Mr Jowett as Headteacher for our school is fantastic news. He has already made such a great impact providing excellent communication to parents and continually driving to improve standards even through these challenging times. My daughter has even commented that his football skills are impressive when he joins in at lunchtime!”

Chris has been in post since September 2020 in the interim role and already he has made a significant impact, particularly in working with staff to develop successful remote learning provision which supported pupils’ learning during the partial school closure, Sarah said. She added: “He continued the part-completed work to improve and develop the school logo, as well as organising a total redesign of the website to bring it right up to date. The website looks modern and appealing and is a real improvement.”

Sarah said the governors are looking forward to working with Chris. She added: “We are confident Mr Jowett will provide the stability and clarity of direction we need to continue our journey to success.

“Chris is passionate about sport, Forest School and providing enrichment opportunities to enhance the curriculum.

“He is looking forward to a wide range of extra-curricular clubs resuming in the summer term so that children have the opportunity to practice and develop their skills in other areas.

“He is also a firm believer in the importance of a Growth Mindset and challenges staff and pupils alike to reflect on how they have become a little bit better at the end of each week.

“We are planning on showing visitors around the school in the Summer Term, if Covid restrictions allow, and we would be delighted to hear from you if you would like to come and see our beautiful school in person.

“We have spaces available in year groups across the school and would love to share with you what makes Slinfold such a special place to work and learn. Please contact the school office on 01403 790253 to arrange an appointment.”
