Pre Covid-19 this was a popular monthly service and to ensure they could restart safely, new measures were put in place.

Somerset House Day Centre, next door to St Anne’s, kindly offered their garden and pulled out all the stops to create an outdoor salon, complete with a gazebo and bunting.

Rob Henly from Somerset House said: "If there is one thing we have learnt during the Covid epidemic, it’s that it is important for charities and communities to come together and share their resources and knowledge."

St Anne’s Day Centre manager Shelley Eldrdery was keen to offer our clients haircuts again, she said: "I can’t think of anything else that gives a lift in spirits than a proper haircut and beard trim - it touches our hearts to see the transformation and joy on the face of a client when they see themselves as they want to be, in the mirror. It, more than anything else, gives them back some self respect."

St Anne’s wished to make this a real community focused event and Louise Coffey from Morrisons on St James’s St brought along sweet treats for clients.

Louise said: "It’s a pleasure for us to get involved and I love volunteering at St. Anne’s."

Living on the streets has many challenges and something as simple as offering a haircut - a regular action that many of us do not think about - can give a real boost.
