Star-studded movie filmed in East Sussex is released in cinemas

A star-studded film partly shot in locations across East Sussex has been released in cinemas.

Second World War drama Summerland, which features former Bond girl Gemma Arterton as the lead, was released in UK cinemas on Friday (July 31).

The film follows her character Alice as she opens up her heart to a war evacuee after initially resolving to be rid of him.

Some scenes in the award-winning playwright-turned director Jessica Swale’s debut film were shot at the Seven Sisters cliffs, Brighton Railway Station and the Marina car park on St Leonards seafront near Azur.

Dame Penelope Wilton features alongside Ms Arterton and is best known for her part in Downton Abbey along with a host of blockbusters, The BFG, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Calendar Girls.

It also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Sir Tom Courtenay.

The film’s running time is 100 minutes and it was released by Lionsgate.
