Startled dog walker discovers monster from the deep on Worthing beach

A terrifying monster from the deep has startled a Worthing dog walker and frightened her anxious pet.

Holly Asargiotakis was out walking her dog near the Blue Bird Café in Ferring yesterday (February 22) afternoon when she stumbled across the slimy behemoth.

Despite walking her dog regularly along the beach, she said she had never seen something like this.

“To be honest it was just a bit weird, wasn’t it?” said the 29-year-old.

“It’s nothing like the usual fish that wash up and, for some reason, there were a load of dead crabs everywhere as well.”

Holly put her size five shoes next to it for scale and found the beast’s head was the length of her foot.

She estimated it must have been at least 4ft long.

She said her poor dog was wary of getting too close, but did pluck up the courage to get in for a quick photograph.

Worthing and Adur’s coastal office confirmed the animal was a conger eel, which are native to the UK’s waters.

The European conger eel can grow to more than 6ft in length and some have been known to attack humans.
