They aim to raise more than £3,000 and say a third of the total has now been pledged.

The group aims to buy a new laser speed gun and recruit extra helpers to enable them to increase by a third the number of roadside sessions on Storrington’s busy roads once current Covid restrictions are lifted.

A spokesman said: “Both businesses and local residents alike are sending us their good wishes, and expressing their gratitude for our volunteers being out on the roadside, even during the lockdown.

“We’re planning on being more visible as more people have received the vaccine, but we really need more financial help to reach our total of £3,200 when we’ll be able to equip our new volunteers to make our roads safer.”
