Chailey Heritage Foundation has been taking part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge, an annual match funding project.

It needed £12,000 of online donations – all of which were matched - from the public in the first eight days of December and reached its target with just two hours to spare.

Headteacher, Simon Yates, said the playground will make a huge difference to the pupils’ lives, commenting: “I want to thank everyone who donated, especially at a difficult time with Covid 19. We are truly grateful.

“The playground will allow our pupils to both learn and play in a safe outdoor environment, which is so vital.

“It will also give easy access for wheelchairs from the classrooms straight into the playground and provide lots of learning opportunities in the fresh air.”

The outside area can now be transformed into an interactive multisensory space, including raised flower beds, a bridge and sensory activities.

Along with a new sunshade and improved wheelchair access from the classrooms to the play area, the changes will enable young people to play outside come rain or shine and enable the young people to make their own choice as to where they want to play and learn.
