Sussex Faerie Festival in Alfriston cancelled

The festival was set to go ahead this weekend at Alfriston Campsite in Cuckmere Road.

But Wealden District Council has confirmed that the event can no longer go ahead due to Covid-19.

A spokesman told the Express: “Under the coronavirus regulations, the organisers of gatherings of more than 30 people are required to provide a risk assessment that is suitable and sufficient to show the risk of transmission of Covid-19 between people attending is controlled.

“In this case, the risk assessment submitted was not adequate and therefore the event could not legally take place.

“Whilst we want events to take place, our top priority is the protection of public health. Our advice to all organisers is to contact the council a few months in advance, so that there is adequate time for our environmental health officers, public health and police colleagues to comment on event management plans.”

The event, which usually takes place in May, was postponed to September due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Now in its 14th year, Sussex Faerie Festival offers visitors a mystical weekend of music, dance, art, food, workshops, kid’s activities and shopping.

Headlining stage acts this year were going to be Celtic speed-folk band Perkelt, the soulful Fabulous Red Diesel and galactic space angel Nova Halo.
