Talks, debate and workshops for International Women's Day at Brighton Dome

A free International Women’s Day event takes place at Brighton Dome and Brighton Museum tomorrow (Saturday).

The day will include pay-as-you-feel workshops, talks and exhibitions exploring gender equality, women’s achievements and history.

The event, which runs from 10am to 5pm, will raise cash for the Brighton Women’s Centre (BWC).

Lisa Dando, BWC director, said: “International Women’s Day is a call to action for gender equality and BWC stands in solidarity with people from across the world working to make this a reality for all women everywhere”.

A ‘Justice for Women’ panel will debate what needs to be done to make Britain’s justice system a fairer place for women. Chaired by Lisa Dando, panellists include Caroline Lucas, Brighton Pavilion MP; Meena Patel, Southall Black Sisters; Lady Unchained, National Prison Radio; and Clair Cain, Women In Prison.

Sophie Cook, former Labour Party candidate, RAF veteran, writer, broadcaster and trans woman, traces a journey from private torment to personal triumph.

Lewes FC, the world’s first pro or semi-pro football club to pay their women’s team the same as their men’s, discuss drawing a line under pay inequality and teach a football chanting workshop.

Authors Juno Dawson and Tanya Byrne discuss intersectional feminism and the launch of PROUD, their teen LGBTQ anthology.

Social entrepreneur, campaigner, single parent and feminist Muslim Miss YasminIsYasmin explores how she whistleblew to change her world, and her love affair with Bangladesh.

Authors Umi Sinha and Ruth Figgest discuss the power of family patterns, how they shape us, the compromises women across the world have to make, and whether it is possible to break free and find our own ways of belonging.
