Telephone box is transformed into ‘beautiful’ visitor kiosk in Midhurst

A red telephone box has been turned into an information kiosk in North Street after being purchased by Midhurst Town Council for £1.

The kiosk will act as an information centre with the aim of keeping tourists and visitors in town but showing that there is ‘more than North Street’ in the town.

Cllr Jeanette Sutton had the idea since 2015 and has said she is ‘very pleased’ with the final result.

She said: “As soon as we bought it we put in a local map and leaflets. It shows that there’s more to the town than North Street and will be open all the time.”

The telephone box was completely refurbished and refitted ahead of its opening.

“It just looks beautiful,” Cllr Sutton added.

A spokesman for The Midhurst Society said: “The phone box in North Street has now completed its conversion into an information kiosk. Well done, Midhurst Town Council.”

The Midhurst Society donated some history leaflets to go alongside the shoppers’ map, and the leaflets include information on The Market Square, Richard Cobden, H G Wells, Tudor Midhurst and St Ann’s Hill.
