Developers have been given permission to convert the rear extension of the North Street store, which closed in 2018. Listed building consent has also been secured.

In September 2019, an application was submitted to convert the national retailer's former site into a three-bedroom house with associated parking with 'internal modifications' to the grade two listed building.

The proposals have this week been approved by Chichester District Council with an S106 agreement. Read the full application hereIn the planning documents, the applicant said: "The development will provide a high quality, three bedroom unit in the historic core of Chichester, where there is high demand for residential accommodation. The property will be provided with two parking spaces.

"The rear extension has a modern and architecturally plain appearance. The proposed change would enhance the traditional character of the building by inserting sympathetic features, enlivening its elevations and creating the appearance of a service building that would be associated with a Chichester town house."

The main shop unit is unaffected by the proposals and will remain empty.

The national retailer also had a furniture store in the Hornet, which was converted into community space last year.
