A spokesman said: “This has been a year like no other and many of the town’s groups have faced many challenges, some saw demand for their service dramatically increase, whilst others were unable to provide services in their usual way and had to adapt so they could continue offering much needed support.”

A pot of £21,000 was made available to any charitable or not-for-profit club, group or organisation in Littlehampton that met the criteria.

Chairman of the Community Resources Committee Billy Blanchard-Cooper said: “One of the grants that will have an immediate result is the £3,794 going to the foodbank, a service in high demand since the start of the pandemic. This grant will be utilised to deliver a vital service to the community by enabling the group to get stock, packaging and transport goods.”

Sussex Tornado’s Cheerleaders, Littlehampton Heritage Railway Association, Men Walk and Talk, Littlehampton Fort Restoration Project and Friends of Mewsbrook Park have also benefitted from the scheme.

Meanwhile, sports stars in Littlehampton can benefit from a £2,000 grants fund again this year.

Working with the Littlehampton Sports Forum, the town council has launched The Financial Awards for Sporting Excellence.

It is open to residents who need financial support for training, competition fees, transport, accommodation or equipment. The awards are aimed at sportspeople of all ages playing at county level.

Councillor Billy Blanchard-Cooper, chairman of the Sports Forum, said: “Although many sporting seasons have been interrupted this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we still wanted to give sportspeople this opportunity to help them progress in their chosen sports in the future. These grants give our incredible local talent a chance to do this and achieve greatness whilst representing Littlehampton”.

The closing date is August 31. Apply at littlehampton-tc.gov.uk/sportsgrants.
